For access to CMS Student, please refer to the following based on your position:


Faculty members automatically receive access to the CMS Student "Faculty Center" when CMS detects the faculty as "active." Active pertains to either a full-time, permanent faculty member or a lecturer with a complete/signed contract updated in CMS. See Faculty Center Help.



All New Staff and Newly Appointed/Designated Advisors are required to complete both, the FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and Data Security & Privacy online courses. Access to CMS/HR data and systems depends on the completion of training. 

The FERPA and the Data Security & Privacy online courses are administered in the SkillPort security awareness training system. Both courses are hosted by the CSU Chancellor’s office in the SkillPort LMS.

How To Take the FERPA Training

  • Log into the SkillPort dashboard using your OtterID and password.
  • Access the course called EDU: FERPA & Protecting Education from CATALOG.
  • Once you have completed the EDU: FERPA & Protecting Education course, you will receive a certificate of completion. Please print this certificate for your records - you may be asked to submit it as proof of training completion.

Please Note: If you do not have access to SkillPort system, please submit the following form to request FERPA101 course in iLearn: FERPA Training Access Request. Once submitted, you will receive an email from the Center for Academic Technologies (CAT) dept. with login information to the online course.

    Access to CMS Student depends on an employee's role or position at CSUMB. Although access has been pre-defined for each position, new employees must complete a New Employee Data Access Request


    All Advisors including Faculty, Professional Staff and Peer Mentors must complete an Alternate Data Access Request.
